The Houdini 27 Harness is designed to offer postural support and a certain degree of restraint to children and adults on single or split backed double seats, to keep them in an upright sitting position. Fits most types of vehicle seating including low or high backed, and is used on aircraft seats by many leading airlines. The two transverse fixing straps do not interfere with the passenger behind using the drop down trays (depending on airline). It is recommended to seek permission from the airlines to use the Houdini 27 harness prior to departure.

The harness consists of a full body harness connected to a back pad which is fitted horizontally around the vehicle seat back with two horizontal fixing straps.

The Houdini 27 harness is identical to the Houdini 28 harness, except the mounting straps are different for different seats.

This vehicle harness is classed as a low risk medical device and carries the CE mark and complies with the requirements of MDD 93/42 EEC.

Please note that this vehicle harness is not classed as safety harness but as a medical device for postural support. It must be worn in conjunction with the vehicle safety belt.

Medifab strongly recommend that a safety webbing slicer is purchased with every vehicle harness and kept in the vehicle as a safety precaution.

  • Anti-Escape Buckle

Steel anti-escape buckles can be installed to prevent children with inquisitive fingers, challenging behaviour or learning difficulties escaping from the carseat or harness during travel. These unique buckles have proven very successful as they operate in reverse to a normal buckle.

To disengage, you raise the spring-loaded catch, and then tension the belt before it will release. (It will not press release)

  • Harness Cross Strap

A Cross strap can be fitted to this harness to hold the shoulder straps together and prevent them from slipping off.

    ! WARNING: May Present Hazard

The Harness Cross Strap should only be used if required to prevent shoulder straps falling down, or as a restraint mechanism when a user is escaping from their harness.

Potential risk of injury increases due to the device’s proximity to the neck area.

Please ensure that the cross strap is located far enough down to be safe for the user.

Cross Straps must not be used on Harnesses with Chest Pads as the Cross Strap would be too near to the neck.

Is this harness vehicle safety approved?

Please note that this vehicle harness is not classed as safety harness but as a medical device for postural support. It must be worn in conjunction with the vehicle safety belt. It is classed as a Disabled Persons Restraints for postural support and as a low risk medical device it carries the CE mark and complies with the requirements of MDD 93/42 EEC.

Does this harness require a vehicle tether point?

No. This harness does not require any tethering; it is not a safety harness. It is simply attached to the vehicle seat with the securing straps.

If I can't pass the strap between the seat and the backrest, what can I do?

This can be common. Most vehicles have a carpet flap at the rear which prevents the straps coming vertically around the seat. In virtually all cases the carpet can be cut with a pair of scissors or a knife to provide access through.

How do I Care for my Harness when it needs washing?

  • Harnesses must be cleaned by Hand washing only, in warm water up to 70 or 80 degrees.
  • Use a mild detergent/anti-bacterial liquid wash.
  • Mild disinfectant can be used.
  • Do not use Bleach or Tumble Dry your harness.
